Top 5 in Nerja: the best experiences presented in a nutshell

2545

Not everyone will be able to find the time to experience all the beauties of Nerja. Many plan a short stop on your round trip. In a nutshell, I introduce you to my top 5 in Nerja.

What you shouldn’t miss in Nerja

Balcon de Europa

It is very difficult to miss the Balcon de Europa on a walk through the city. The historic balcony is the place for a panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea. The backdrop of the sea, coast and mountains will make the perfect canvas for your vacation photos. The props are cannons and a bronze statue of King Alfonso XII. At the crowded point of Nerja, you will often meet artists and events. I’ll tell you more about the viewing platform in my post Balcon de Europa.

Cuevas de Nerja

A big favorite of mine in the TOP 5 in Nerja. I was very impressed by this nature experience. Hard to believe that such a thing can be found below Nerja. I can highly recommend the stalactite caves. The entrance to the caves can be found in the district of Maro and can be reached by car, bus or the Cueva Tren. The tour costs about 10 € and guided by a Spanish speaking guide or audioguide. More detailed information about the opening hours and tours can be found in my post Cuevas de Nerja.

Playa Burriana

I like to stay at this beach. Here I could spend the whole day. The beach promenade gives you a wide range of bars, cafes, and restaurants. For lunch, you should try the most famous paella in Nerja. Known by a Spanish series from the 80s you will find the Chirringuito Ayo at the end of the road from Burriana. There are several volleyball and children’s playgrounds and a wide range of water sports activities. If you’re brave enough, you can try jumping into the water from the rock at the east side end of the beach. You can reach the beach by car or a 20 min walk from the center of Nerja. Since free parking spaces in the high season are hard to find, you can also spend a few euros on the underground car park next to the beach for more convenience.

Playa El Salon and Playa Calahonda

From the square of the Balcon de Europa, paved roads lead you to the two beaches. There you will find magnificent scenery of rock formations. Great to look at are the fisherman’s cottages, which are partially embedded in the bay. The water is crystal clear and shimmers in blue tones. A beautiful place that can be reached quickly and easily from the old town. In high season, the beaches are often crowded due to their size. My tip: take your swimsuit and dodge in the side bays. Explore the sections between the rocks and let the breathtaking atmosphere surprise you.

Enjoying street life with tapas and drinks

One of my top 5 in Nerja is the tapas dish on the streets of Nerja. I love this atmosphere. People meet, let go of everyday life and enjoy the moment. There are numerous bars in Nerja offering cool drinks and tapas. Sit down at a bar, order a cold beer and enjoy the Spanish life. If you can not decide on the large selection of bars in Nerja, then check out my post “My Top 5 Tapas Bars in Nerja”.
